WASHINGTON, DC — Elementl Power Inc. (“Elementl Power”), a technology agnostic advanced nuclear project developer and independent power producer, today announced the appointment of Dr. Mirela Gavrilas as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, effective immediately.

“Dr. Gavrilas’s decorated professional achievements and commitment to regulatory excellence align perfectly with our mission and vision as we work to accelerate the deployment of advanced nuclear projects to meet the growing demand for reliable, clean baseload power,” said Chris Colbert, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Elementl Power. “Her appointment rounds out Elementl’s seasoned executive team as we advance to our next phase—announcing specific sites and advancing their development to serve Google and other forward-looking customers.”

Dr. Gavrilas joins Elementl Power following a distinguished two-decade career at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (“NRC”), where she most recently served as Executive Director for Operations. In this role, she led approximately 2,700 technical and mission-support staff, and served as acting chief operating officer for the NRC. She spearheaded efforts to reduce licensing timelines and streamline approval processes for advanced technologies such as fusion machines, as well as small modular- and micro-reactors. Under her leadership, the NRC also strengthened its incident response and cybersecurity programs and adopted a new project management framework that enhanced regulatory efficiency and staff engagement. In addition to her extensive leadership credentials, Dr. Gavrilas brings a wealth of experience in reactor systems, severe accidents, nuclear materials and risk.

Dr. Gavrilas began her professional career serving on the faculty of the University of Maryland. She holds a bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
